From E.B., Long Beach, CA, USA:
SUBJECT: SPIKE LEE
Hello Ro d,
?I am a black woman.? I am 47 years old, living in Long Beach, California, (so what)?who just saw the Tavis Smiley Show, and I am so impressed?with Spike.? I was born and raised in Los Angeles, BUT, every summer, for the first 17(seventeen) years of my life,?I went to Plaquemine, or Turnerville Louisiana?to visait my grandmothers, and make new friends, and see my old boyfriends, and get new ones.? I swam in Lake Ponchatraine once or twice;? passed over the Bonnie Carr Spillway many times, and even spent many summers playing on the Levey that?is only walking distance from my mohers and my grannys' house today.? My mother was there when it happened, yes, and I cried for her too.
The shit that they talk about on the media is so stupid, like blacks'?did not come into being until the 90's.? Yeah I will admit that some of us did not find our brains until then, but damn that is still no reason for the bullshit we as a people are feed.
When I was little, I use to ride my bicycle with my friend, that my aunts raised.??Our house is still there, and we could get to the levy in 5-10 minutes.? It was so steep we would have to walk at?an angle to get to the top, and once there, we could then ride our bikes on the top?and down the other side, only at an angle though, due to the steepness of the hill.? You could not have paid me to believe that the Big Muddy would ever get that high.? Little did I know then, that the levy was going to get that low.
As the summers passed, we were gradually able to soon ride up one side and down the other.? The water became so visible. due to the fact that the foliage was gradually sinking into the earth.? The sand bars?are now the banks, if there are some left, and the levy is now a speed bump.
The same white men that act like this is an act of God, are full of shit.? God ain't no actor, and wait till He really does His thing.? They are gonna have hell to pay. Bless the few of us who are not scared to speak the truth.
?Get back to me please, and I would like??Mr. Lee to read this.
I'll be in Louisiana in a few weeks or so.? C-ya!!

I've passed your inquiry on to Lionel Rolfe, the author of the article you reference and Yaltah's son. I know she lived in London but don't know about this particular conference.
I'm sure Lionel will be more than willing to assist you.
